Baptism

To Get Baptised …

The word “baptise” is derived from the Greek language.

It was used to describe the process of  dying cloth; which was fully immersed (or baptised) in dye.

In the Bible when people were baptised they were fully immersed in water.

This is also evident from Romans 6:4 “we are buried with him (Jesus) by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the father, even so we also should walk in newness of life”

We go into the water to symbolise the burial of the old life with all it’s problems and difficulties, and just as Jesus went into the grave and rose again, we too can be raised with a newness of life when we are filled with the Holy Spirit.

We read in Acts 10:44 – 48 of how people received the Holy Spirit before they were baptised so it is not an automatic following on from being baptised.

Receiving the Holy Spirit is a separate experience to baptism because as we also read in John 3:5 we must be born of water (baptised) and of the spirit.

Further, as the scripture says, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost” (Acts 2:38).

We must make a conscious decision to repent and be baptised and therefore infant baptism is not in accordance with scripture.

Why be baptised?

It is a commandment – see Acts 2:38, Acts 10:48 and Mark 16:16.

Jesus himself was baptised (not as a child) in the river Jordan (Mark 1:9 – 11) again confirming that baptism is by full immersion and not sprinkling.result, enter, happy, tangible, weapons beyond, family break, other environmental, crime

Further, in 1 Peter 3:21 we read that baptism is the answer for a good conscience towards God

FULFILMENT …

We all seek enjoyment and reward

We search for it at work, in relationships, in recreation, in fantasy and even in beliefs.

result, enter, happy, tangible, weapons beyond, family break, other environmental, crime Many chase rainbows all their life believing that there is some lasting            satisfaction in achievements.

Some become angry and extreme while searching; others seek relief or  insight through drugs.

Most have found that there is only a brief satisfaction in achieving goals,  but even this fades with time

There is only one experience in life that guarantees not to leave us disillusioned

This experience is not associated with excellence in sport, or in scholastic    achievement.   It is not limited to any sector of the community.   It is a  personal experience, it is a tangible miracle, it is receiving the Holy Spirit

The Miracle of receiving the Holy Spirit is recorded in the Bible in Acts 2:1 – 4

It has the potential to meet every need you have in life.   If you want genuine lasting fulfilment, this experience is the only source.

The reality of this experience will never leave you.

It brings rewards … the ability to pray in a God given language (1 Corinthians 14:2), joy unspeakable and full of glory (1 Peter 1:3 – 8 ), peace that passes understanding (Philippians 4:4 – 7), and abundant life now (John 10:10), and everlasting life to rule and reign after the return of Jesus Christ (Romans 6:23)

HEALING …

I Am The Lord That Healeth Thee

(Exodus 15:26)   The God of the Bible is a healing God. He calls himself  ”Jehovah – Rapha”, the physician and healer.

result, enter, happy, tangible, weapons beyond, family break, other environmental, crimeJesus demonstrated the healing power of God throughout his ministry, ” And Jesus went about all Galilee … healing all manner of disease among the people” (Matthew 4:23)

That healing power is still available today

Is any sick among you?   Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him … And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up

But … Jesus came to do more!

He did and still does heal our physical needs.

But as we also read in Isaiah, ” He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: and with his stripes we are healed”(Isaiah 53:5),

Jesus also came to heal the breach (separation) between God and man which Adam caused  ”For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive” (1 Corinthians 15:22)

Healing Naturally and Spiritually

If you are sick, you can be miraculously healed by the power of God.

And more importantly, the breach between you and God can also be healed.

The Bible says,   “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost” (Acts 2:38)

THE VOICE GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT…

Speaking in Tongues, Interpretation, and Prophecy are the voice manifestations of God’s Holy Spirit, and their correct use brings honour and glory to God.

Many today have a careless attitude towards these gifts, which can result in unbelievers (those not filled with the Holy Spirit) thinking that the users of these gifts are mad (1 Corinthians 14:23).

Paul the apostle wrote: “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints” (1 Corinthians 14:33).   We are told “covet prophecy and forbid not to speak with tongues” (1 Corinthians 14:39)

Everybody who has the Holy Spirit has the ability to use the voice gifts as well as all the other gifts and fruit of the Holy Spirit.   In 1Corinthians 1:7 we are told to come behind in no gift.

Speaking in tongues is a prayer language of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 14:14).   When we pray in this tongue, we are strengthening (edifying) ourselves, (1 Corinthians 14:4), Jude 20 and Ephesians 6:18) and the spirit also makes intercession for us when “we know not what we should pray for as we ought” (Romans 8:26)

result,enter,happy,tangible,weapons beyond,family break,other environmental,crime

In a church meeting, during the operation of the spiritual gifts, tongues are a sign to unbelievers (1 Corinthians 14:22) as are the other voice gifts so that unbelievers know that they are in the presence of the Spirit-filled.

The Bible clearly describes how to operate these gifts in 1 Corinthians 14:27 – 33.

“If any speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most three, and that by course; and let one interpret” (the gift or manifestation of interpretation, not a translation) so that the Church may be edified.

The only mention of speaking in tongues all at once is when the Bible says not to!! (1 Corinthians 14:23).

After tongues and interpretation there is to be a maximum of three prophecies.   This is not a future – telling ability, but spoken in the language common to the congregation to edify, exhort and comfort the Church, (1 Corinthians 14:1 – 5) as moved by the Holy Spirit

WHICH CHURCH …

If There Is a Truth …Then Where Is The Proof

With so many churches around nowadays preaching different gospels, how can you tell which is the right church?   There is only one church which Christ himself commissioned … when he was here on earth.

God offers a tangible experience in the Bible called the baptism of the Holy Ghost – it is not just a “faith” thing.

Mark wrote, “… There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose.   I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.” ( Mark 1:7 – 8 )

Christ said “… except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God. ” ( John 3:5 ), therefore we must be baptised in water, by full immersion, after the example that Christ set for us when he was baptised in the river Jordan by John the Baptist and receive the Holy Spirit.

You know that you have received the Holy Ghost because you will speak in tongues ( Mark 16: 15 – 20 ).   Once you have been baptised in water and the Spirit you become a member of His body/church, which is “the church”.

As Paul said ” So ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you.   Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.” (Romans 8: 8 – 9 ).

The choice is up to you,

You too can experience the infilling of the Holy Spirit for yourself as the apostles did on the day of Pentecost

WHAT IS GOING ON

AND WHY …

Will world peace happen in my lifetime?

Why say peace when we are creating weapons beyond comprehension?

Why are we facing the green house effect and ozone problems?

Why are scientist struggling with the ecology and other environmental issues?

Why are there new and devastating diseases?

What is the real terrorism today?

Why is there an upsurge in crime, violence, suicides, immorality, family break-ups and civil disobedience?

These things can drastically effect our lives.

All these were prophesied ….and more!
